U.S. PULLS B-1 BOMBERS FROM FAIRFORD AFTER SECURITY ALERT

The departure coincides with new U.S. deployments to the Middle East; Washington has offered differing explanations for the threat.

The Pentagon confirmed that U.S. bombers deployed to RAF Fairford returned to their home bases in the United States over the weekend. The move followed intelligence about a possible drone threat to the base. President Donald Trump linked the threat to Iran; Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier described the movement as a routine rotation. Washington has not publicly released evidence resolving that discrepancy or confirming the threat's origin.
